Some foods don’t lend themselves particularly well to consistency. We politely call these examples “rustic”. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; coarsely chopped vegetation of differing sizes can quite often add a pleasing effect. But sometimes you just want your homemade specialties to all be the same size with no surprises in store. Trees that smell good are to cars as baking soda boxes are to refrigerators: every refrigerator has one. Just like the air freshener that dangles from the rear view mirror, an open box of baking soda serves the purpose of deodorizing the surroundings (but just without the weird, chemical smell). Chances are good there is one lurking in the back of your refrigerator right now. And chances are also good that the darn thing has been knocked over before, spilling baking soda everywhere.

Good peanut butter is essential. But as anyone knows who goes for the good stuff, it tends to separate upon standing. One could use a butter knife to mix up the peanut butter, having it emerge from the jar like some kind of peanut butter club, or one could use Grandpa Witmer’s Old Fashioned Natural Peanut Butter Mixer.
