Twist Whisk promises more than hot air

Twist Whisk 10" Egg Whisk Twist - Red by Cuisipro

Air turbulence isn’t always a bad thing. While the aerodynamically sensitive industries surrounding planes, trains and automobiles may disagree about that, cooking is all about moving air. One might think that usually cooking concerns the movement of hot air in particular, but not in this case.

The Cuisipro Twist Whisk may look like loopy red licorice vines sticking out of a handle, but these silicone-wrapped wires aren’t going to be very tasty (or easy to eat). Designed to create more movement of air while mixing, the textured nature of the of the wires carry with them the promise of increased efficiency, resulting in reduced whipping and mixing time. Forget the mysterious black box material, if Red Vines licorice makes things go faster, maybe they start making airplanes out of candy.

Colander rethink is deep

Cylinder Colander

Kitchen gadgets and gizmos come and go, but there a few that are present in every kitchen and never get a second thought. The colander is a good example of this. After all, it’s basically just a big ol’ stainless steel bowl with holes in it. But for draining pasta and cleaning veggies it can’t be beat. However, be that as it may, sometimes the darn thing is just the wrong shape. Draining pasta is one thing, but when it comes time to scrub leafy greens, more often than not, some escape over the side. As ubiquitous as colanders are, this minor inconvenience rarely gets a second thought. Unless you’re thinking deep.

Slicing (garlic) without jail time

Garlic Slicer

You know that scene in Goodfellas when they are in ‘jail’? And whatshisname is slicing garlic so thin that “it melts in your mouth”? That has always appealed to me. (The garlic, not the jail time.) While I may have picked up a few cooking tips from Martin Scorsese films, generally I still crush garlic. There may be a ton of garlic crushers or mincers out on the market, but I still usually prefer to simply whack it with a knife. (The broadside of a knife, that is.)

For those that desire thinly sliced garlic without doing time, the Garlic Slicer may be the answer. Made of 18/10 stainless-steel, the handheld gadget delivers three uniform slices of garlic with a simple twist of the wrist. It holds up to two cloves at a time, and the remainder can simply be stored in the fridge for later use—with no need to bribe anyone in order to go on a garlic run.
